Second Last Week.....Yikes!!!!

Just finishing up the second last week of first term. Not sure where the time went. It feels like we just started the school year. Though right now teachers are really begin to load on the work. This week I had to get done, 1 Presentation, three papers, and an E portfolio, while getting reading for my last week with the other two major presentations and paper. Not sure how I am going to get it all done. Though I am looking forward to my presentation in ICT. My group is showing how you can use the smart board in the classroom. We manage to create a few activities to show the class as well as showing them how to use the clicker system. I really like the idea of using the smart board in the classroom there is show much you can do with it. It can give the students an opportunity to manipulate different things that they may not get to in real life as well as making it quicker for the teacher to prepare. For example you create a shape and have the smart board divide into whatever portions you want. This can be done with paper in class but it would take hours on the teachers part cutting out different shapes.

Third Last Week...

Its the third last week of school before the Christmas break and things have gone nuts. We have gotten all of our assignments to finish off the term and I am not sure how i am going to get it all done. On the bright side I got to take a pd on how to use the smart board effectively in the classroom and it was really good. We learned different way to use the smart board, learned about skype in the classroom and how to use the clickers. I am looking forward to using this information in my presentation for ICT. The PD I took was targeted toward middle years so my group is going to create different ways to use the smart board in a senior years classroom.

First Week back

So its time to return to classed after being away for five weeks. Its going to be a very busy couple of weeks. Each teacher is loading on the homework so we can be done before Christmas Break. As for ICT this week we had a presenter come in and teach us different ways we can use technology in the classroom. Thanks to him I have simple projects that I can use with my students. Such as using audio recorders with students to get small bits of information from them that I can create a sound track of learning from.

Student Teaching and ICT

I had limited experiences with technology on my placement. However I did get to teach an ICT class and introduced the students to Befunky and Prezi. As well as I had one teacher show me how to use a document camera. In the classroom the teachers had Memeos (turns the white board into a smart board.) However my placement ended before I had a chance to really use them.

Last Week Of Class Before Student Teaching

So its the last week before student teaching and Yikes has it been busy. So far One test, one group test and a 15min presentation are done but we still have a mid term on Thursday to finish. But once that is done we have a long weekend then it is straight into the classroom. For this week in ICT I have managed to finish my website and its looking pretty good. I am really excited about using it in the classroom to keep myself and my students organized.
As for new information there has not be a whole lot because we missed Mondays class but today we are working on power points and what makes an awful presentation. I have seen a lot of presentations that are not set up very well. The part that annoys me the most is either there is way to much information on a slide or you can't read it because the text blends into the slide.

Its the second last  week before we head out into the classroom. Yikes!!!!!! There is a lot to finish up before heading out, however it should be fun when we finally get into the classroom. In ICT this week we have learned how to manipulate pictures we take, which will come in handy when we have to create lessons on power point as well as making inspirational poster for the classroom. I also manage to get my website done, and I really plan on using it in the classroom. For some things it will make in easier on Parents and Students because as a teacher I can get out information a lot faster.

Week three

We are well into week three and getting closer to student teaching. I am getting nervous about being in the classroom because we don't have much information to go on. However from our ict class we have a fare about of tools now that we can use in the classroom. The major one that I am working on right now is creating a website that I can use in class. I did talk about this last week but the new part I added to my website is from Symbaloo. Symbaloo allows me to group all my website links into a neat group of tiles. Which will really help to organize my link page on my website.

Another week in...

Well now its a week and half into my first year of Education. I would have to say it has been a lot of fun, however it also has been very difficult. The hardest part about education is time management. I work, go to school and have a family it is not always the easiest to balance. Saying that I am tired but I am, right now, somehow managing.

I am really enjoy my ICT Class I never really sat down and thought how technology can be used in the classroom. But now I have and I am really excited about all the possibilities. For example, the one thing I probably will do for my classes, is set up a web page were children can send their homework to instead of handing in a hard copies. As well as have the homework and test dates up on the site so parents can see what there child has to have done for the next day. I probably will put notes up on the website to, so if a child is struggling they can look at examples online as well as parents can have an idea what is being done in class.

First week back to school

So I am now halfway through my first week of school, and I have been asked to create a blog. So I thought I would write about my experiences being in the Education Department at Brandon University. For Those who are reading this if any, my name is Robbie, I am married, living in Brandon and like I said attending Brandon University to become a teacher. I hold a Bachelors in Science with a Math major and a dual Minor in history and psychology. But that is enough about who I am this blog is about what I have experienced. To say the least these first two days are off to a rocky start. I am attempting to get myself organized and failing miserably at. I have already managed to forget to do some of my homework. Which was a big oops but managed to recover because it was short I was able to quickly get it done before classes start. I really hope this does not happen again because I really can't stand being unorganized and forgetting to do something. On the positive not I have met some really amazing people, who are a little crazy like me. Which honestly I think is a trademark of any teacher. To end off because I really should be going to bed, I would have to say I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, however part of me is wondering what I have gotten myself into and if I will be able to become the teacher I want to be. But I guess only time will tell. And to all those out there that are looking at this and picking out all my spelling and grammar errors. I apologize I am a math major for a reason.
